I've been beaching in and around Playa del Carmen, Mexico, since '96. But as the Mayan Riviera gets more and more developed, popular, and Americanized, I'm starting to look for a new and off-the-beaten-path tropical Eden. Has anyone been to, or heard about, Playa Sonrisa? www.playasonrisa.com/
It's quite a bit further south, 240 miles south of Cancun, so quite a trek from the nearest airport. But it sounds really amazing, secluded, and pretty much clothing-optional.
I'd love to find someone who's spent time there.

I have been to Playasonrisa twice. It is off the beaten path and as a result very quiet and peaceful. There is a reef approximatley 500 yards offshore that provides some incredible snorkelling. Because of the reef, there is little wave action, sea grass, and a lot of wildlife. Murph and Cindy are great hosts. In short this is a fantasic place to escape to.
