Okay, I finally made it to a beach on the Great Lakes this spring--

What are some other great beaches?
Ward Island off of Toronto was very interesting from a nature and sounds point of view with frogs and birds, the wind, the sound of racing lazers, a voice or two in the distance. Fresh wood gnawed by beavers had amazing textures. There was drift wood on the beach and garter snakes in the underbrush. When one sits on the sand, even in a brisk wind, the sand is warm and frogs can be heard in the nearby marsh.
So, what other great beaches are there on the Great Lakes? There must be many...

East side of Lake Michigan is sand dunes all the way from Indiana up to Traverse City. Can be a bit cold, though. Michigan is much deeper than Ontario, so it take longer to warm up. I'd say July.
Clothing required, but Chicago's beaches are quite nice, actually, and maintained.
