Out of curiousity, who here works on the beach? Who lives on the beach?
I wait tables at a restaurant on the beach. It rules. The beach is directly across the street from where I live. No condos in the way or anything else. There's sand all over the place in my house. I crawl into the bed and feel sand sometimes. Love it.
Peace,
msi.

Re: living and working on the beach
Tue, June 27, 2006 - 10:25 PMI had a 5 bedroom house in Kismet Fire Island in the early 80's House was called 'The Beachcomber' from early May till mid October I lived at this beach house. The island was fabulous! No vehicles to speak of, you traveled from community to community by either water taxi, or you walked along the ocean front.
Believe me taking care of 19 shareholders was a full time job. However I do have many fond memories of all the great people I met and shared three summers with. It is a pity the West Coast doesn't have Group rental beach homes as does the East Coast.

Re: living and working on the beach
Wed, June 28, 2006 - 5:33 PMIn my dreams I live and play on the Cote d'Azure in the south of France. Work? That's for the commoners. Actually, my mom used to rent a little house on Catalina Island every summer in the 70's. It was a great place to be a kid in the summer. Up with the sun, down to the beach, pick up a couple of comic books on the way (Vampirella was my favourite,) swim all day long, snow cones in the sand, fishing off the pier, miniature golf at night, no parents, no supervision, no cerfew. It was heaven. Our last summer their was in 1976. I did go back a few years ago and it was awful. Packed to the gills with tourists, tourists, tourists and everyone has a cell phone attached to their ears. It was pathetic. But at least I have my memories. I did live briefly in Malibu with some friends in this little hippy converted Chinese fishing village and that was interesting. -

Re: living and working on the beach
Fri, July 7, 2006 - 6:22 PMi can see the water from my house, but dont currently live on the beach.
i did for 2 years in 2 different houses on the northeast side of o'ahu. it was beautiful, sunrises every morning, evening cocktails on the sand, judging the best time to surf in between. its a remote part of the island so you can score oceanfront rentals for cheap, you just have to commute to honolulu.
as for work, i can see the beach from my office building. and i work with managing commercial fishing boats and protected marine animals so i go to docks and beaches somewhat frequently. -
